NOUN Protests Exclusion Of Graduates From NYSC Scheme,Read what later Happen.

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has protested the exclusion of its graduates from the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) scheme.

The vice chancellor, NOUN, Prof Abdalla Adamu appealed to the National Universities Commission (NUC) to intervene and prevail on the authorities of the NYSC to allow NOUN students participate in the scheme to enable them contribute their quota to nation building.

Adamu, who led a full squad of NOUN’s management to the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja on Tuesday, said the exclusion was contrary to the promotion of patriotism and unity in the country.

He said it was an irony that the most inclined of the nation’s graduates were excluded from a programme designed to engender patriotism and unity.

According to him, “It is national news that NOUN graduates are excluded from participation in the NYSC scheme, although exclusion letters are often provided.

“In NOUN, we train graduates with nationalistic outlook in Nigetia, and can boast to be the only university in Nigeria where people from all the LGAs in Nigeria are represented as students.

“However, this nationalistic outlook cultivated by our students is dampened by the painful fact of their exclusion from the NYSC scheme.

“The desire of NOUN graduates is to participate fully in the NYSC scheme and contribute their quota to the development of their nation. We are sure that with the appropriate intervention of the NUC led by you, this problem will be over,” he added.

Abdalla further disclosed that NOUN has suspended its law programme, following the exclusion of‎ graduates of Law programme from attending the mandatory Law School of Nigeria by the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

He stressed that the suspension of admission into the programme followed an advice by the National Universities Commission (NUC)‎ to stop admissions pending the resolution of the inability of its graduates to go to Law School.

The Council for Legal Education had exempted law graduates of Open University from attending Law School on the ground that the mode of study at the Open University is either by correspondence of part time.

Prof Abdalla also called on the NUC to address the difficulty faced by NOUN students in running post graduate programmes at the masters and doctoral degree levels in universities.

Decrying the level of discrimination by Nigerian universities, he disclosed that the same NOUN students were offered post graduate admission into prestigious universities abroad and were excelling in studies.

Responding, the Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, assured that any NOUN graduate under the age of 30 would undergo the NYSC scheme.

“Many numbers of graduates of NOUN may not qualify because either a number of NOUN graduates will be above the age of 30 when they complete their studies but technically even if it is only one number who is under the age of 30, will be allowed to go for NYSC.

“We will do our best to attempt to discuss in our management and reach out to the NYSC on this issue,” he added.

Rasheed further decried the discrimination leveled against NOUN graduates by universities disallowing them from running post graduate programmes in their institutions.

He noted that NOUN was run by professors in established universities in the country and could not understand why NOUN graduates should be discriminated against by the universities in their PG programmes.

THIS IS THE ‘CHANGE’ WE PROMISED NIGERIANS – LAI MOHAMMED REVEALS

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that the change promised by the All Progressive Congress to Nigerians is not a trick.

Addressing a crowd at the town hall meeting for the South East organised by the Federal Ministry of Information in Enugu on Monday, Mohammed said that the change was already manifesting in every sector.

He said that contrary to the insinuations in certain quarters that the people were not feeling the impact of the government, a lot had been done in moving the country forward and the government would remain undaunted in implementing its change agenda to improve the lot of Nigerians.

Many have said they are yet to see the change we promised. Many more have called the promise a ruse. In fact, they are now mocking us. But we remain undaunted because we know that the change we promised is real. In fact, the change we promised is already here, and it is manifesting all around us.

Buttressing his point further, the minister said that the government had successfully stopped the looting of public funds which was responsible for underdevelopment.

Before now, public officials simply opened the public till, took as much money as they wanted and walked away without consequences. That explains why funds allocated to the military to fight Boko Haram ended up in the piggy banks of many unscrupulous Nigerians. Today, all those who looted the public treasury are being made to answer for their actions, as impunity gives way to accountability. Many have offered to return their loots, and many more are facing charges.

The minister said that with the introduction of the Treasury Single Account, funds meant for the Federal Government were directly paid in and used for development of infrastructure. He noted that before now, funds accruing to the government were paid into so many accounts and went to private purses.

Mohammed said that the government had successfully identified and stopped salaries hitherto paid to more than 30,000 ghost workers.

We promised to diversify the economy away from oil, to ensure that other sectors are able to significantly contribute to sustainable development. In June 2016, for the very first time, about 70 per cent of the more than N500 billion raised from the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee came from the non-oil sector, while 30 per cent came from the oil sector. It was the first time in 2016 that the Federal Government shared more than N500 billion among the three tiers of government.

In the area of security, Mohammed said that the government had successfully crushed the Boko Haram terrorists and not a single territory was being administered by them.

On infrastructure, the minister said that construction firms had been mobilised to sites on major roads in the country.

As they move to site, they are creating thousands of new jobs. No part of the country is left out of this. Where the contractors have not been seen on site, it is because of the rains, not because of lack of mobilisation. The minister said that the complaints over perceived or real instances of lopsidedness in appointments were being addressed. There are hundreds of appointments yet to be made. It is an evolving scenario and any lopsidedness is being addressed as we progres.

FG MERGES POLYTECHNICS WITH UNIVERSITIES, SCRAPS THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMMES

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a comprehensive reform of the tertiary education system in the country with plans to scrap the award of the Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes offered by polytechnics.

In effect, the award of the HND will be limited to only students currently enrolled in the programmes.

Also, all the programmes currently being run by polytechnics, which are not technology-based will be scrapped.

Under the new law, the polytechnics will now become campuses of the proximate universities with the Vice Chancellors of those universities appointing provosts for the polytechnics, subject to the ratification of the Universities Councils.

The polytechnics will now be limited to award of the National Diploma (ND) while those desirous of further education will be awarded the Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) by the proximate university.

To kick-start the new policy, the nation’s two most prominent polytechnics – Yaba College of Technology and Kaduna Polytechnic – will henceforth be known as City University of Technology, Yaba and City University of Technology, Kaduna respectively.

And to give legal backing to these approvals, the FEC approved the submission of two Executive bills to the National Assembly for enactment into law.

The first bill will concretise the setting up of the two city universities while the second will approve the preparation and consolidation of all federal polytechnics and colleges of education as campuses of proximate universities.

Switzerland To Return MIND-BLOWING Abacha Loot To Nigeria

The Swiss Government has said it will return the sum of 321 million dollar looted by late and former Military President General Sani Abacha.

This was disclosed by Eric Mayoraz, the Switzerland ambassador to Nigeria after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters in Abuja on Friday.

He said: “The Abacha loot is a very active dossier that we are dealing with now. We have repatriated 722 million dollars in 2005 to Nigeria and we are now in the process of repatriating 321 million dollars from the second batch of Abacha funds that we have collected.

“Today, the signing of the MoU is for the future cases so it will allow better cooperation. It will reduce time for the process of transmitting the legal requests from Nigeria to Switzerland and vice versa because MoU we signed is not only for looted assets, it is for all criminal matters”.

Earlier in his comments, the envoy said that the signing was aimed at fostering understanding of the legal systems and improving the judicial cooperation of both parties.

He added that the signing of the MoU formalised the commitments of both countries to fighting international crime.

“There is a common ground; this is now a legal tool. If we will each do our share of the work, we will reach our goal; it will in the future be harder to profit from corruption and I am very proud of that”.

Ronaldo, Bale, Griezmann On UEFA Best Player Shortlist

Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid teammate Gareth Bale headlined a 10-man shortlist announced on Monday for the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award.
Ronaldo struck the winning spot-kick as Real claimed an 11th Champions League title, beating city rivals Atletico Madrid on penalty kicks in May, before leading his country to Euro 2016 glory.

Fellow Portugal and Real teammate Pepe also featured on the shortlist, along with Wales star Bale.

The former Tottenham Hotspurs star had steered his country to the semi-finals of the European Championship in their first appearance at a major final since 1958.

Ronaldo is favoured to the win the award for a second time, after scooping the honours in 2013-14, which would see him draw level with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann was also nominated after his six goals in Euro 2016 earned him the Player of the Tournament and the Golden Boot.

Unfortunately, France fell short against Portugal in the final match.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Messi is one of two FC Barcelona players to make the list along with Luis Suarez.

The Bayern Munich duo of Manuel Neuer and Thomas Mueller, Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and Real midfielder Toni Kroos are also included.

NAN reports that the players were selected by journalists from each of UEFA’s 55 member-associations who will vote for a second time on Aug. 5 to determine the three finalists.

The winner of the award will be announced in Monaco on Aug. 25 when the draw for the UEFA Champions League group stage is made.(NAN)

Ladies, Are You Still Single? These are 5 Reasons Why You Have Not Found Your Man Yet

Are you spending most of your weekends alone, but you don’t want to be? Then it’s time to do a little self-exploration.

Either you’re just really bad at picking dates or there’s a reason why no one wants to be around you.

Let’s take a look at five ways you’re sabotaging your relationships.

1. You’re indifferent

Staying cool, calm, and collected might work for a job interview, but it doesn’t cut it in the dating world. If you genuinely like someone, say it. Don’t hide your feelings in an effort to look like you have it all together or to avoid the risk of looking like a fool.

Smile and show that you are enjoying your date’s company. Sometimes you just have to put yourself out there.

Just being your awkward, funny self can be the most attractive thing. If you miss your date, say so.

If you’re looking forward to spending time together again, share that. Letting someone know you care is enough to make their heart melt.

2. You don’t take care of yourself

Grooming — whether or not you’re going on a date — is a must. And when you are on a date, being well groomed has even more of an impact.Make an effort to style yourself not only so that you can look attractive but also so that you can feel good about yourself.

Make your date look good. There’s no shame in wanting people to be just a little jealous of your date because you’re looking like a major hottie.

Look your best at all times. That means you should pay attention to the small details like your nails, hair, and accessories.

Going the extra mile when it comes to your appearance shows that you care.

When you look sloppy, it sends the message that you are not invested in either yourself or the relationship.

3. You’re mean

It’s never OK to be rude. Don’t forget common courtesy, like saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you.’
Also remember to be polite to those who serve you. Just because someone is holding your door or bringing a meal to your table does not give you the right to release vitriol whenever you please.

Think before you speak, and don’t forget to add a little bit of patience and kindness. A little niceness can go a long way.

If you insist on being mean and consistently turn a blind eye to the needs of others, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you will spend a lot of time alone.

4. You’re following outdated rules

There’s the three-date rule, the 24-hour rule, the three month rule, and on it goes. Stop living by crazy rules and start enjoying your life.

All of this rule following will just leave you frustrated and involved in a highly superficial relationship. Be yourself and let nature take its course.

5. You’re picky

There are no perfect people. If you’re waiting for the next best thing to come along, you’ll be waiting for a very, very long time.

Accept that there will be some flaws you’ll just have to deal with. Only you can decide what’s tolerable, but don’t be extreme once you do make a decision.

If you don’t have any plans to settle down and get married, then be picky.
But if you want to eventually tie the knot, you’ll have to stop looking so hard for what’s bad in others and start looking more at yourself and your reasons for magnifying everyone else’s shortcomings. You might be the problem.

Nigeria declares July 5, 6 public holidays

The Nigerian government has declared Tuesday, July 5, and Wednesday, July 6, as public holidays to celebrate the Muslim festival, Eid-el Fitri.

The Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, announced the holiday in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday.

The statement was signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Bassey Akpanyung.
The minister enjoined all Muslims and Nigerians to exhibit the spiritual benefits of Ramadan, which are love, peace and justice, in their daily living and contribute to the development of the country

He also urged all Nigerians to use the opportunity of the spiritual rejuvenation to reflect on the significance of unity and peaceful co-existence in strengthening the bond of togetherness for a strong, virile nation.

“I wish‎ Nigerians a peaceful celebration and urge total support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s avowed determination to bequeath to the nation an enduring political legacy,” he said.

FRSC to commence enforcement of speed-limiting devices on commercial vehicles, trucks

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, on Friday said the agency had concluded plans to commence enforcement of speed-limiting devices in commercial vehicles, including articulated trucks and lorries.
Mr. Oyeyemi said a recent decision by the House of Representatives to lift a moratorium on the enforcement of the speed-limiting devices also helped the commission in its decision.

The House had in June gave the FRSC the green light to commence enforcement of the devices in vehicles.
The House also urged the FRSC to explore other speed-limiting technologies with a view to adopting them.
Mr. Oyeyemi made the announcement when he briefed reporters in his office at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja on Friday morning.

“Following the submission of the committee’s report and its debate at the plenary of the house, the recommendation for the lifting of the suspension order was adopted and the house has accordingly lifted the suspension order on the enforcement of the device,” he said.
“Consequently, the corps is coming up with a new date for the commencement of the enforcement on the compulsory use of the device as soon as consultation with relevant stakeholders is completed.”

Mr. Oyeyemi said adherence to the use of speed-limiting devices would help reduce crashes on Nigeria roads, adding that the measure had yielded significant positive results in countries where it had been adopted in recent years.
Mr. Oyeyemi, however, said the agency was still working out the frameworks on the implementation of the devices on other passenger vehicles.
As Nigerians travel around the country for the Ramadan holiday, Mr. Oyeyemi said he had deployed a total of 31,000 road safety officials on Nigerian roads, including about 15,000 special corps officers, as part of efforts to ensure an accident-free holiday journeys for all Nigerians.
The patrol, tagged by the commission as ‘Operation Ed-el-Fitri’, would hold daily from July 3rd through 10th.
Mr. Oyeyemi also expressed his gratitude to Nigerian motorists for their strict compliance with road safety regulations, saying the perennial campaign of his agency had started yielding results.

MTN Nigeria wins 2.6 GHz broadband license, set to deploy 4G LTE internet

MTN Nigeria has won the frequency spectrum license for the 2.6GHz band as the sole bidder in the auction exercise by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
MTN said the 10-year license will guarantee superior performance for wireless networks, especially 4G LTE services, including the roll-out of broadband internet services across the country, starting in the major cities of Lagos and Abuja.
Although Nigeria is one of 28 African countries currently offering 4G LTE services, the rate of penetration has been restricted to a few major cities.
But, with the acquisition of the license at about N18.96 billion, MTN said in a statement on Wednesday that its success was “a big boost to its plan to deliver global mobile broadband and LTE 4G services to over 60 million customers in Nigeria”.
The company said it was also planning to deploy FDD networks in addition to its existing WIMAX over TDD networks, to ensure for greater consistency with existing 2G and 3G deployments.
MTN Nigeria CEO, Ferdi Moolman, said with the 2.6 GHz band, the company will roll out immediately to provide the full range of LTE services to Nigerians, empowering Nigeria with the latest mobile broadband technology.
The NCC has described the spectrum as a significant trigger for a broadband revolution that would ensure greater coverage, access, affordability and innovation for the customers.
“We are very pleased with this development (award of the license) at this time, which is a further step in the right direction for Nigeria,” Mr. Moolman said. “Indeed, MTN is fully aligned and supports the NCC’s objective to deliver broadband services to present and future generations of subscribers, in line with the National Broadband Plan of 2013.”

“This license acquisition further demonstrates MTN’s abiding faith in the future of Nigeria and the resilience of the Nigerian economy. MTN continues to believe in Nigeria and we have expressed this belief in the level of our investment, which currently stands at approximately USD 15 billion and counting.”
He said MTN strongly believed there was need for significant levels of investment in broadband infrastructure and services to truly launch Nigeria into the information age.
In addition to aggressive investment, he said MTN has also built the most extensive private fibre optics superhighway in Africa and the Middle East, covering approximately 16,000 kilometres.
“Our subscribers, especially those in clustered areas such as the major cities, can expect distinct improvements in browsing speed, quality and experience, including fast access to high definition video streaming, as well as conferencing and calling, lag-free music streaming, and improved data uploads and downloads,” Mr. Moolman said.

INEC issues Certificate of Return to Samson Ogah as new Abia governor

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has issued Samson Ogah the Certificate of Return as the new governor of Abia State, three days after Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was sacked by a court, the News Agency of Nigeria has reported.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had on Monday directed Mr. Ikpeazu to immediately vacate office after convicting him of tax evasion.

The court also ordered INEC to issue a certificate of return to Mr. Ogah, who contested the governorship ticket with the governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Mr. Ikpeazu had said through his Chief Press Secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos, that he remained the governor because he was challenging the judgment in a higher court.

As an appointee of Abia State Government from 2011 to 2014, he argued that his taxes were deducted at source.
He also argued that the state Board of Internal Revenue in 2014 issued him with valid tax receipts shortly before he contested the governorship election in the state.

A government spokesperson told PREMIUM TIMES on Thursday that Mr Ikpeazu was “not going anywhere”, and that he was remaining in office.

Lagos State Bans ‘Omo-onile’, Says Defaulters Will Be Heavily Punished

Lagos State government has yesterday, June 27, 2016, warned that it is set to visit the activities of land grabbers, also known as Omo-onile, in the state with full wrath of the law.

The warning was delivered by the government through the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adeniji Kazeem who said the state is ready to apply the full wrath of the law on anybody caught forcibly taking another person’s land in the state.

Inaugurating a five-man Special Task Force to curb the criminal activities of land grabbers, the government said it will henceforth enforce the state government rights over land in Lagos and to also work with all security agencies to implement state government and private property rights in the state.

The terms of reference of the committee, include: “to reduce to a barest minimum the activities of persons or corporate entities who use force and intimidation to dispossess or prevent any person or entity from acquiring legitimate interest and possession of property acquired through state government or private transactions.

Beside the committee is: “to coordinate the efforts of the various agencies of government charged with enforcing the state government rights over land in Lagos and to work with all security agencies to ensure enforcement of state government and private property rights in Lagos State”.

Kazeem explained that the state government’s decision to set up the task force is in realisation that in recent years, “the land grabbers have caused havoc and unrest in different parts of the state by dispossessing legitimate land owners of their properties, thereby stifling commercial activities in the state.

“It is therefore important that the state government not only identifies the effects of the problems being perpetrated by these unscrupulous elements on commercial activities and peace of the citizenry but also find lasting solutions to the menace”, he noted.
Beside the commissioner said the task force “was to protect investors and maintain law and order” adding, “this by implication will encourage the verification of legal claims through litigation rather than resorting to violence”.

He said that the State Assembly is about passing a law that will exclusively deal with the activities of the land grabbers and prescribe appropriate stiff penalty for offenders.

Donald Trump Says Some Teachers Should Have Guns in Classrooms

Donald Trump on Sunday said some teachers in the U.S. should be armed with guns inside their classrooms.

The presumptive Republican nominee, who was recently endorsed by the National Rifle Association of America, made the comments during a Fox & Friends interview in which he was asked to respond to Hillary Clinton’s remarks about his stance on gun control.

“I don’t want to have guns in classrooms, although in some cases teachers should have guns in classrooms, frankly,” Trump said. “Because . . . things that are going on in our schools are unbelievable.”

“I’m not advocating guns in classrooms,” Trump added. “But remember in some cases . . . trained teachers should be able to have guns in classrooms.”

Clinton on Saturday attacked Trump in Florida during an appearance at the Trayvon Martin Foundation’s Circle of Mothers event, which is held for mothers who have lost a child to gun violence, according to the Miami Herald.

“He’d mandate that every school in America allow guns in classrooms,” Clinton told the crowd. “That’s no way to keep us safe. If you want to imagine what Trump’s America will look like, picture more kids at risk of violence and bigotry. Picture more anger and fear.”

Wayne Rooney is Britain’s richest sportsman

The England and Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney, tops the 2016 Sunday Times Rich List for young sportsmen in Britain, which is published this weekend.
Rooney has amassed an £82m fortune, making him the richest sportsman aged 30 or under, a rise of £10m from last year.
The 30-year-old’s wealth comes from a reported £300,000-a-week contract at United, which makes him the highest-paid player in the Premier League, as well as endorsements with the global brands Nike and Samsung.
The tennis brothers Andy and Jamie Murray are in second place with a joint worth of £58m, though £57m of it is contributed by the world No2, Andy. Rory McIlroy has enjoyed the biggest increase in wealth, earning an extra £18m to take him up to £56m in total and to third place in the list.
The Northern Irishman earned almost $10m in prize money but it is off the course where he has made his real cash, with a long-standing deal with Nike and other endorsements with Omega, Bose, Upper Deck sports memorabilia and Electronic Arts being especially lucrative.
Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale is up to fourth on the list after a year in which he became the second-richest footballer. The Welshman earns around £15.6millon a year at the Bernabéu in addition to contracts with Adidas, Sony and Electronic Arts. He is worth £34m – a £13m increase from last year.
A host of foreign Premier League stars make up the majority of the rest of the top 10. Sergio Agüero (£33m), David Silva (£31m), Radamel Falcao (£29m), Samir Nasri (£22m) and Eden Hazard (£18m) all feature in the list.
The Chelsea playmaker Hazard is joint 10th in the standings with the boxer Amir Khan, though Khan is likely to add to his wealth when he fights Canelo Álvarez next month.

Protests in London as 2m people call for 2nd referendum on EU

"Anti-Brexit protests were also held in other UK cities, including Edinburgh, where Remain won by a vast majority – a result reflected in all 32 local authorities in Scotland, triggering demands for a second Scottish independence referendum. Photo: Daily Mail of London"

Anti-Brexit protests broke out on the streets of London after a petition for a second EU referendum attracted 2 million signatures within a day.
The protests came despite a record 33.5 million people taking part in the referendum-the highest in any election since 1992-in which Leave won with 51.9 percent, a margin of 1,269,501 votes.
And today, Labour legislator David Lammy says Thursday’s result was non-binding and Parliament should now vote on whether Britain quits the EU, potentially ignoring the vote.
He says some ‘leave’ supporters now regret their votes and we should not destroy the economy ‘on the basis of lies and the hubris of Boris Johnson.’
Two million people have now signed the petition, which the Government must now consider debating in the House of Commons, which it must do for any which gets more than 100,000 names.
But the majority of signatures are from people in London and areas with a high population of students, which predominantly voted Remain, meaning the result may not be any different.
Thousands came from north London, Cambridge and Oxford, while more than 3,000 of David Cameron’s constituents also signed the petition.
The results from the historic EU referendum are awaiting a final declaration and the United Kingdom is projected to have voted to LEAVE the European Union.
Demonstrators waved EU flags, held posters saying ‘Yes 2 EU’ and banners claiming the older population ‘stole our future’.
Because it easily passed the 100,000 target, MPs will be forced to consider the proposal in Parliament this summer.
The petition demands the Government re-stage the referendum because the winning vote for Leave was less than 60 per cent and was based on a turnout of less than 75 per cent.
The result revealed stark divisions between young and old, north and south, cities and rural areas, and university-educated people and those with fewer qualifications.
In London a separate petition is calling on Mayor Sadiq Khan to declare the capital independent from the United Kingdom, and apply to join the EU.
Although the decision is not legally binding on MPs, it would be an act of political suicide for any group to attempt to override it and order a second referendum after months of hard-fought campaigning.
Anti-Brexit protests were also held in other UK cities, including Edinburgh, where Remain won by a vast majority – a result reflected in all 32 local authorities in Scotland, triggering demands for a second Scottish independence referendum.
Any petition that receives more than 100,000 signatures within six months must be considered for debate by MPs in Parliament.
Any petition that attracts more than 10,000 in the time period requires a response from the Government.
By lunch time today the petition had already attracted more than 1,308,147 signatures.
The result of the EU referendum should be overturned by a Commons vote next week, a Labour MP has insisted.
Former minister David Lammy said the poll, which produced a narrow, surprise, win for the Leave side, was non-binding and parliament remains sovereign.
The Tottenham MP said the Commons, where a majority of members backed Remain, should ‘stop the madness’ of Brexit.
‘Wake up. We do not have to do this. We can stop this madness and bring this nightmare to an end through a vote in parliament.
‘Our sovereign parliament needs to now vote on whether we should quit the EU.
‘The referendum was an advisory, non-binding referendum. The Leave campaign’s platform has already unravelled and some people wish they hadn’t voted to leave.
‘Parliament now needs to decide whether we should go forward with Brexit, and there should be a vote in Parliament next week.
‘Let us not destroy our economy on the basis of lies and the hubris of Boris Johnson,’ Mr Lammy said.
.
The petition – started by William Oliver Healey this morning – states: ‘We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the remain or leave vote is less than 60% based on a turnout less than 75% there should be another referendum.’
The House of Commons Petitions committee will now be forced to consider staging a debate in Parliament on the proposals for a second referendum.
Their next meeting is on Tuesday after MPs return from a mini-recess, although it might have to wait until the following week to be discussed.
The petition reflects the anger among the 16.1 million voters who backed staying in the EU – particularly young voters in London and across Scotland, who overwhelmingly backed Remain.
Three in four 18-24-year-olds voted for Remain in the referendum and more than half (56 per cent) of 25-49-year-olds backing the pro-EU option, according to initial estimates of the vote breakdown by YouGov.
It was those who may have to live with the consequences the longest who seemed most disappointed with the result.
According to a YouGov poll, the youngest of the electorate voted overwhelmingly to Remain, while it was older voters who were most keen on Brexit.
The survey, conducted after voting closed, found 75 per cent of those aged between 18 and 24 voted to remain in the EU.
Some 56 per cent of voters aged between 25 and 49 voted for Remain, but the figure dropped to 44 per cent for 50 to 64-year-olds and just 39 per cent for the over-65s, according to the poll.
Leader of the Liberal Democrats Tim Farron described the result as a ‘great injustice to future generations’.
‘Their future has been taken away by older generations,’ he said, in a speech following the result.
‘What a tragedy that older voters, the people who have been able to benefit from European integration, have removed the opportunity for those coming behind them.’
But those who emerged victorious from the country’s momentous decision sought to reassure those on the losing side.
In his victory speech at Vote Leave headquarters, Boris Johnson said: ‘I want to speak directly to the millions of people who did not vote for this outcome, especially young people, who may feel that this decision involves somehow pulling up the drawbridge, because I think the very opposite is true.
‘We cannot turn our backs on Europe, we are part of Europe, our children and our grandchildren will continue to have a wonderful future as Europeans.
‘It is the essence of our case that young people in this country can look forward to a more secure and more prosperous future, if we take back the democratic control.’
A poll carried out for The Times at Glastonbury music festival found 78 per cent had voted before setting off, with 83 per cent of those surveyed saying they backed Remain and just 16 per cent supporting Brexit.

David Cameron Resigns As Prime Minister After Britain Votes To Leave EU

David Cameron has resigned as prime minister after Britain voted to leave the European Union.

The prime minister said Britain required “fresh leadership” to negotiate the country’s exit from the EU.

“I do not think it would be right for me to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination,” he said in a statement outside Downing Street.

He promised to “steady the ship” over the coming months before stepping down in October.

Mr Cameron was close to tears as he announced his decision.

The referendum, called by Mr Cameron, delivered a shock victory for the Leave campaign.

The Brexit vote immediately sent the pound tumbling and sparked calls for his resignation.

Mr Cameron said the result was the “will of the British people” which was an “instruction which must be delivered.

4 Common Signs Your Girlfriend Loves S*x

If, as a man, you believe you have a high libido, it is important to look out for a partner with these personality as it means they are more likely to have a higher s*x drive.

One huge cause of unhappiness, dissatisfaction and disappointment in any relationship is libido incompatibility. This happens when one partner has a very high libido and the other has an extremely low s*x drive.

If, as a man, you believe you have a high libido, it is important to look out for a partner with these personality as it means they are more likely to have a higher s*x drive.

The following common characters can reveal to you the true s*xual zeal of your partner:

1. Agreeableness:

A recent study shows that women that are more ‘agreeable’, in other words, women who attach a lot of importance to making sure they get along with others usually have high libido. These kind of women are non-confrontational and are hardly ever involved in conflict with others.

2. Easygoing:

Women who are more easygoing, as opposed to women who are uptight, usually have a higher libido. Women who are not insecure, jealous, anxious are usually more likely to want s*x more often.

3. Mysterious:

A woman who has a more mysterious trait is also more likely to be more s*xual. She does not reveal too much information about herself and only tells you what you need to know. She might seem secretive as opposed to extremely open.

4. Open-mindedness:

Is she open-minded? Does she have tendency to always want to see other people’s perspective? Is she usually open to new ideas? Then she is more likely to have a higher s*x drive.

BREAKING NEWS: BUHARI SACKS STRIKING DOCTORS, GIVES FRESH ORDERS

The minister of health, Isaac Adewole has directed chief medical directors (CMDs) and medical directors (MDs) of federal government tertiary health institutions to fill the vacancies created by resident doctors who have “abandoned” their training programme and embarked on a strike action on Monday.
